Sandbags Trash Container Used sandbags are not suitable for reuse and should go in the trash (black) container. Keep in mind, they are heavy items, so make sure to only fill about 1/3 of the cart. Do not place used sand in or near bodies of water, playgrounds, sandboxes or other areas of direct human contact. For sandbags that have not been used, consider giving them away through local marketplace sites to see if someone can take them. Or find a use by sprinkling in plant beds. DID YOU KNOW? Sand is the second-most used resource on Earth, after water. There is an increasing scarcity of global sand resources, so please use wisely. Take Caution When Handling Used Sandbags Sandbags in contact with floodwaters may become contaminated by sewage, animal waste, oil, lawn chemicals or other hazardous chemicals. Wear gloves and a dust mask when handling potentially contaminated materials. Ways to Reuse Reuse Unused Sandbags Sandbags that did not come into contact with floodwaters can be safely stored and reused. If your bags have deteriorated or started to leak, the sand can be placed into new bags or spread on landscape beds.
